Marketing is used to attract customers to a business, promote a product, or inform people about the dangers of popcorn (“Made to Stick,” Chip and Dan Heath). But what about in retail?
I work at my local Scheels, and one of the things I have noticed is how they promote different clothing items as the seasons and customers’ desires change. It seems that every time I clock in for a shift, the floor has changed dramatically.
People get tired of looking at the same old things. If they walk in the door and see the same items on display, they are less likely to browse. Items that are displayed differently generate interest.
Seasons change. Different styles come and go. Even if things stay the same, one small change can make all the difference.
