Through the printing process, paper can shift from one color to the next. Without proper, or any trapping, image shifting, or misregistration can result.

- In your fourth art board in your Illustrator file, use the type tool to give yourself an “A,” fill it with 100% cyan, and convert it to an outline (shift + command + o)
- Using the rectangle tool, hold Shift and create a square, filling it with 100% magenta, and layering it behind the “A”
- Copy the “A”
- Select both the “A” and the square, and with the shape builder tool, hold Option to knock out the fill of the “A” and group both items (command + g)
- Select the copied “A” and click Overprint Fill in the Attributes panel
- Layer it off-center over the box and the knocked-out “A” (make sure Overprint Preview is on in the View menu)
- Visit the previous blog to learn how to do the pull-out “A” to further demonstrate misregistration
